Rapidmix Mobile Continuous Concrete Mixing Plant / Pugmill Leads to Cost Savings on Mine Backfill Project in Tanzania.

Kascco Construction improved their mine backfill process in Tanzania by using a Rapidmix mobile continuous concrete mixing plant. Introduction Kascco Construction Ltd, part of the Kascco Group in Tanzania, needed an efficient solution to produce mine backfill material for a major mining operation in the North Mara region. To meet these demands, they acquired a Rapidmix 400CW mobile continuous concrete mixing plant from Rapid International. The Problem Mine backfill is crucial for filling voids created by mining to keep underground pillars stable and prevent surface subsidence. Kascco required a reliable way to mix large volumes of cemented rockfill—a blend of waste rock and cement slurry—to ensure safety and support ongoing mining activities. Efficient production and timely delivery were key to avoiding delays in the mining cycle. What Work Was Carried Out Kascco used the Rapidmix 400CW to mix pre-graded aggregates with cement slurry and water, producing a consistent cemented rockfill suited to the project’s needs. The plant’s high output rate of around 400 tonnes per hour, combined with Kascco’s fleet of Volvo dump trucks, allowed for fast and efficient backfilling directly on site. The Results This setup sped up the backfill process, reducing downtime and cutting costs related to labor and delays. Kascco reported satisfaction with the plant’s performance and the overall savings it brought. The Rapidmix’s ability to maintain a controlled, high-quality mix aligned perfectly with the project’s requirements. Closing Note The Rapidmix 400CW, fully mobile and self-sufficient with onboard power and hydraulic setup, offers adjustable feed rates and precise weighing systems. It provides a cost-effective, high-capacity solution for demanding projects like mine backfill, as well as other applications including soil stabilisation and runway construction.
