Rapid International has brought industrial coating in-house by investing in a modern shot-blasting facility and paint booth to improve product quality and customization options.

Introduction

Rapid International, a machinery manufacturer in County Armagh, took a step to enhance their manufacturing process by setting up a new coating facility. Until now, they had outsourced these services but decided to develop in-house capabilities to better control quality.

The Problem

Previously relying on subcontractors for industrial coating limited Rapid’s control over the finish of their products and extended lead times. They wanted a solution that would improve finish quality, reduce turnaround time, and allow for custom branding on their machines.

What Work Was Carried Out

The company installed a Hodge Clemco shot-blasting unit along with a Dalby paint booth, designed to maintain optimal temperature and humidity conditions for spray painting. The booth features efficient extraction to work safely with polyurethane finishes, providing durable and attractive coatings. An energy-saving mode reduces power use when the system is inactive.

The Results

Bringing these processes in-house saves time and cost, while offering Rapid the ability to deliver bespoke machines in their customers’ brand colours. This investment supports the company’s reputation for producing reliable, high-quality equipment for the concrete and construction sectors.
