Tobermore expanded its block paving production by installing a custom Rapid International batching plant capable of producing an additional one million square meters annually.
Introduction
Tobermore, a well-known manufacturer of paving and walling products in the UK and Ireland, invested in a new bespoke concrete batching plant from Rapid International as part of a major expansion. This plant supports increased production to meet growing demand for their hard landscaping materials.
The Problem
With rising market needs, Tobermore required a new batching plant to boost capacity significantly while maintaining the high standards they are known for.
What Work Was Carried Out
The new plant features a large 20 cubic meter dump hopper to receive aggregates and sand. Materials are moved via a wide inclined conveyor to a shuttle conveyor, which feeds into a total of 29 storage bins ranging in size, the largest number ever used on a Rapid plant. Weighed belt conveyors transfer materials from these bins to a main batch conveyor leading to the mixer house. From there, the aggregates are routed to multiple holding hoppers before being mixed. Three sizable silos supply cement to the mixers through screw conveyors. The system includes six wet batch hoppers for face mix and four for back mix, allowing for a wide variety of blending options. The plant is built with a multi-floor mixer platform offering easy access for cleaning and upkeep, accommodating two mixers and the necessary moving hoppers.
The Results
Covering an internal area of over 4,000 square meters, the plant has significantly increased Tobermore’s production capacity, adding room for another one million square meters of block paving each year. The expansion is also expected to provide numerous local job opportunities across departments including production, dispatch, haulage, sales, and administration.
Closing Note
The partnership between Tobermore and Rapid International continues to thrive, combining advanced batching technology with a commitment to quality and growth.
