An Alternative to Tarmac in Australia

CEC in Australia has expanded its capabilities with a new mobile Rapidmix 400 C plant for efficient cement treated road base production. Introduction CEC, an Australian construction company, recently added the Rapidmix 400 C to their equipment lineup. This mobile continuous mixing plant is built to produce large quantities of cement treated road base while being easily transportable and quick to set up. The Problem CEC needed a flexible solution to produce high-quality cement treated base material onsite, reducing reliance on traditional, less efficient methods involving dry laying and water trucks. A mobile plant would allow them to take the mixing directly to the project location. What Work Was Carried Out Through Rapid’s distributor Lincom Pacific Equipment, CEC acquired the Rapidmix 400 C— a 40-tonne, self-contained machine with its own power supply. The plant is designed to change from travel mode to fully operational in just a few hours through a hydraulic system. With specific customizations made to meet CEC’s needs, the plant was shipped to Brisbane and transported to Cairns. It features a 12 cubic meter aggregate hopper feeding a twin shaft continuous mixer with interlocking paddles, ensuring thorough mixing of the road base and cement from a tall binder silo. An internal water supply controls moisture levels, and the finished mix moves 11.4 meters via an onboard conveyor to the output hopper. The Results The mobile mixing plant produces a more consistent, stronger road base compared to older methods. CEC used the new system to build high-strength pavements, including work at Cairns International Airport. The plant was first tested at Cairns depot and put through full production runs at a quarry in Townsville. It gives CEC the flexibility to bid for projects requiring superior cement treated base material across a wider area. Closing Note This Rapidmix 400 C offers CEC a practical, mobile solution to improve efficiency and quality on projects involving cement treated road base. Its quick setup and reliable output open new opportunities for on-site material production.
Rapidmix Enables New Contracting Possibilities for Allasso Recycling.

Allasso Recycling expanded its capabilities with a Rapidmix 400CW mobile continuous mixing plant to produce high-quality hydraulically bound materials across various UK projects. Introduction Allasso Recycling, a Wiltshire-based company specializing in recycling and construction services, invested in a Rapidmix 400CW mobile mixing plant. Operating from their Hampshire base, this plant supports local authority work and a broad range of projects in highways, utilities, and construction sectors throughout the UK. The Problem Allasso needed a reliable and efficient solution to produce hydraulically bound materials (HBM) such as Cement Bound Granular Material, Fly Ash Bound Material, and Slag Bound Material. Traditional static batch plants were less economical for producing semi-dry mixes like HBM, limiting the company’s ability to meet the demands of larger and diverse projects efficiently. What Work Was Carried Out Rapid International, through its local distributor, provided the Rapidmix 400CW. This mobile, self-contained plant features its own power source, compressor, and generator. Designed to switch from transport to operational mode quickly using a hydraulic self-erecting system, the plant can produce up to 600 tonnes per hour. The onboard twin shaft mixer uses intermeshed chill cast steel paddles phased for optimal mixing and throughput. Precise weighing systems for aggregates, cement, and water automate accurate mixing and recording. The mobile plant enables Allasso to efficiently produce a full range of HBMs on-site using recycled and site-won materials in line with industry standards. The Results The new plant increased Allasso’s production speed, allowing them to produce around 20 tonnes of material every few minutes. This improved turnaround supports their own operations as well as client projects. Allasso praised the machine’s build quality, reliability, and the remote support and training provided. The flexibility and high output of the Rapidmix 400CW enable Allasso to take on larger-scale contracts and apply the technology for roller compacted concrete, soil stabilization, and land remediation when needed. Closing Note With the Rapidmix 400CW, Allasso Recycling delivers a cost-effective, high-quality mixing solution that fits the needs of modern civil engineering projects. Its mobility and performance make it a valuable asset for meeting both current and future demands.
Cement Treated Base (CTB)

Woodruff and Sons utilized Rapidmix technology to produce strong, durable cement treated base using recycled concrete for various projects in Florida and Northern Indiana. Introduction Cement Treated Base (CTB) provides a firm, frost-resistant foundation for concrete or asphalt surfaces. It is made by combining native soils or aggregates with cement and water, resulting in a material that improves over time and withstands harsh weather. The Problem For construction projects like roads, airports, and parking areas, a reliable and long-lasting base is essential. Producing consistent, high-quality CTB materials can be challenging, especially when incorporating recycled components to reduce environmental impact. What Work Was Carried Out Woodruff and Sons used Rapidmix equipment to produce their CTB mix. This involved thoroughly blending aggregates, cement, and water in a controlled mixing plant. Their approach enabled the use of recycled concrete as part of the aggregate, supporting sustainability without sacrificing quality. The Results The CTB produced showed excellent strength and durability, distributing loads effectively and reducing stress on underlying layers. Woodruff and Sons applied this material successfully in multiple projects across Florida and Northern Indiana, meeting the demands of heavy-duty pavement bases. Closing Note This case demonstrates how combining recycled materials with advanced mixing technology can create robust and lasting pavement foundations suitable for a variety of construction applications.
